About this exercise

The Dumbbell Single Arm Clean and Press is an explosive full-body movement that combines a power clean from the floor with an overhead press, performed with one dumbbell at a time. It develops unilateral power, coordination, and shoulder strength while demanding significant core stability to resist rotation.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart and a dumbbell on the floor outside one foot
  • Hinge at the hips and grip the dumbbell with one hand using an overhand grip
  • Explosively drive through the floor, extending the hips and knees to pull the dumbbell upward
  • As the dumbbell rises, pull your elbow high and rotate it under the bell to rack it at shoulder height
  • Brace your core and press the dumbbell directly overhead until the arm is fully extended
  • Lower the dumbbell back to the shoulder rack position under control
  • Return the dumbbell to the floor in a controlled hinge before the next rep
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
