HardCoreObliques

About this exercise

A challenging compound exercise that combines a side plank hold with a dumbbell row, simultaneously building lateral core stability and mid-back strength. Keeping the hips lifted while pulling the dumbbell trains anti-lateral-flexion endurance alongside the lats and rear deltoid.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side and prop yourself into a side plank on your forearm, with feet stacked and hips raised off the floor
  • Hold a dumbbell in your top hand, letting it hang straight down toward the floor
  • Brace your core and keep your hips square and elevated throughout the movement
  • Row the dumbbell up toward your hip, driving your elbow back and squeezing the shoulder blade
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the dumbbell under control back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch to the other side
