About this exercise

A seated one-arm overhead triceps extension in which the free hand supports the working arm, keeping the elbow pointed at the ceiling. The seated position and the supporting hand stabilise the arm so the triceps works alone through a full overhead stretch, training each arm independently.

How to Perform

  • Sit on a bench holding a dumbbell in one hand and raise it overhead
  • Support the working upper arm with your free hand, keeping the elbow pointing at the ceiling
  • Slowly bend the elbow to lower the dumbbell behind your head until you feel a stretch in the triceps
  • Extend the elbow to press the dumbbell back up without moving the upper arm
  • Complete the repetitions, then switch arms
