Dumbbell Seated Drag Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Seated Drag Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

A seated biceps curl variation where the dumbbells are dragged upward along the torso with the elbows pulled back rather than staying at the sides. This technique shortens the biceps through a different arc than a standard curl, increasing peak contraction and emphasizing the short head.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a bench with a dumbbell in each hand at your sides, palms facing forward
  • Curl the dumbbells upward while simultaneously pulling your elbows back, dragging the weight along your torso
  • Continue until the dumbbells reach upper chest height and your elbows are behind your torso
  • Squeeze your biceps at the top of the movement
  • Lower the dumbbells slowly along the same path back to the starting position

Muscle Activation

Primary
Biceps
Secondary
Trapezius
