About this exercise

The dumbbell seated alternate front raise isolates the anterior deltoid by raising one arm at a time while seated, which limits body momentum compared to the standing version. Alternating arms keeps continuous tension on the shoulder muscles throughout the set.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright on a bench with feet flat on the floor, holding a dumbbell in each hand
  • Rest the dumbbells on your thighs with palms facing your body
  • Keep your back straight and core engaged throughout the movement
  • Raise one dumbbell forward in a straight arc until your arm is parallel to the floor
  • Keep a slight bend in the elbow and avoid rotating the torso
  • Lower the dumbbell back to your thigh with control
  • Immediately raise the opposite arm in the same manner to complete one rep
