About this exercise

A dumbbell overhead pressing variation that alternates between pressing in front of the head and behind the head in continuous arcs, targeting all three heads of the deltoid in a single fluid movement. Named after bodybuilding champion Larry Scott, it demands shoulder mobility and strict control.

How to Perform

  • Sit upright or stand holding a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height, palms facing forward
  • Press both dumbbells overhead until your arms are nearly fully extended
  • Without pausing at the top, arc the dumbbells down behind your head to ear level
  • Press back up overhead and then arc forward to the front starting position — this completes one rep
  • Keep the movement smooth and controlled; avoid jerking or using momentum
  • Brace your core and maintain a neutral spine throughout
  • Stop the set if shoulder mobility limits a safe range of motion
