About this exercise

A demanding compound movement that flows seamlessly from a Romanian deadlift hinge into a squat, targeting the entire posterior chain and quadriceps in one rep. Holding a pair of dumbbells challenges grip and core stability throughout the sequence. The combination builds functional strength and coordination across the hip and knee joints.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs
  • Hinge at the hips, pushing them back while lowering the dumbbells along your legs (RDL phase)
  • Lower until you feel a strong stretch in the hamstrings, keeping your back flat
  • From the bottom of the hinge, bend the knees and drop your hips into a squat
  • Descend until thighs are roughly parallel to the floor, keeping chest tall
  • Drive through the heels to stand back up to the starting position
  • That is one repetition — repeat for the prescribed number of reps
