About this exercise

The Dumbbell Rollout is a challenging core exercise that uses a pair of dumbbells as rolling handles, similar to an ab wheel. Kneeling on the floor, you roll the dumbbells forward while keeping your body under control, placing intense demand on the abs, core, and lower back stabilizers.

How to Perform

  • Kneel on the floor and place two dumbbells in front of you, parallel and shoulder-width apart, with hexagonal ends for stability
  • Grip each dumbbell and keep your arms nearly straight
  • Brace your core tightly and maintain a neutral spine
  • Slowly roll the dumbbells forward, extending your body toward the floor while keeping hips from sagging
  • Extend as far forward as you can while maintaining control and a flat back
  • Engage your abs and pull the dumbbells back to the starting kneeling position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
