About this exercise

The dumbbell reverse push-up is a bodyweight triceps exercise performed in a face-up position with hands gripping dumbbells placed behind you. By bending and extending the elbows while the body is inverted relative to a standard push-up, the movement targets the triceps similarly to a close-grip bench dip.

How to Perform

  • Place two dumbbells on the floor shoulder-width apart, parallel to each other
  • Sit in front of the dumbbells and grip them with palms facing inward, fingers forward
  • Extend your legs in front of you and lift your hips off the floor, arms straight
  • Keep your chest up and shoulders back
  • Bend your elbows to lower your body toward the floor in a controlled manner
  • Stop when your upper arms are roughly parallel to the ground
  • Press through the dumbbells to straighten your arms and return to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
