About this exercise

A floor press variation using dumbbells with a supinated (reverse/underhand) grip, performed lying on the floor. The floor limits the range of motion at the bottom, protecting the shoulders, while the reverse grip shifts emphasis to the upper chest and engages the biceps as synergists.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on the floor and hold a dumbbell in each hand with a supinated grip (palms facing toward your head)
  • Position the dumbbells at chest height with elbows resting lightly on the floor
  • Brace your core and keep your feet flat on the floor
  • Press the dumbbells upward to full arm extension, maintaining the supinated grip throughout
  • Slowly lower the dumbbells back until your elbows lightly touch the floor
  • Pause briefly at the bottom before initiating the next rep
