About this exercise

The dumbbell reverse bench press is a flat bench pressing variation using a supinated (underhand/reverse) grip. This grip shifts emphasis toward the upper chest and inner pectoral fibers while also engaging the biceps more than a standard bench press.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on a horizontal bench and hold a dumbbell in each hand with a supinated (underhand) grip, palms facing toward your face
  • Position the dumbbells at chest level with elbows tucked slightly closer to your body
  • Press both dumbbells upward until your arms are fully extended
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the dumbbells back to chest level under control
  • Keep the reverse grip stable throughout the movement
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
