About this exercise

The dumbbell reverse grip biceps curl is performed with a pronated (overhand) grip, shifting the primary load onto the forearm extensors and brachioradialis while still engaging the biceps. It is an effective exercise for building forearm thickness and grip strength.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand
  • Grip the dumbbells with an overhand (pronated) grip, palms facing the floor
  • Keep your elbows pinned close to your sides throughout the movement
  • Curl both dumbbells upward toward your shoulders in a controlled arc
  • Pause briefly at the top with the forearms fully contracted
  • Lower the dumbbells slowly back to the starting position with arms fully extended
