About this exercise

The dumbbell renegade row on a stability ball is an advanced compound movement that combines a plank hold with alternating dumbbell rows, performed with hands on a stability ball to significantly increase the core stability challenge. It develops back strength, anti-rotation core control, and shoulder stability simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Place two dumbbells on the floor shoulder-width apart and position a stability ball in front of you
  • Get into a push-up position with both hands gripping the dumbbells, feet wide for support, and your shins or thighs resting on the stability ball
  • Brace your core and keep your hips square to the floor throughout the movement
  • Row one dumbbell up toward your hip, driving your elbow back and keeping it close to your body
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the dumbbell under control back to the floor
  • Repeat on the opposite arm, maintaining a stable plank position throughout
  • Alternate sides for the desired number of repetitions
