About this exercise

The dumbbell prone incline hammer curl is a biceps exercise performed face-down on an incline bench with a neutral (hammer) grip. Lying prone eliminates momentum by preventing the torso from swinging, while the hammer grip targets the brachialis and brachioradialis alongside the biceps.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a low-to-moderate incline and lie face-down with your chest against the pad, letting your arms hang straight down
  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand with a neutral grip (thumbs pointing forward)
  • Keeping your upper arms perpendicular to the floor, curl both dumbbells upward simultaneously
  • Continue curling until your forearms are roughly parallel to the floor or slightly beyond
  • Pause at the top and squeeze the muscles, then lower the dumbbells slowly back to the hanging position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
