Dumbbell Preacher Swing Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Preacher Swing Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

A bicep curl variation performed on a preacher bench using a single dumbbell, incorporating a controlled swing to extend the range of motion at the bottom and increase the stretch on the bicep. The preacher bench angle locks the upper arm in place, keeping tension on the bicep throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Sit at a preacher bench and rest the back of your upper arm flat against the angled pad
  • Grip a dumbbell with a supinated (underhand) grip in one hand
  • Lower the dumbbell toward the floor with a slight controlled swing, allowing a full stretch at the bottom
  • Immediately curl the dumbbell upward in an arc toward your shoulder
  • Squeeze the bicep at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the dumbbell back to the fully stretched position
  • Maintain contact between your upper arm and the pad throughout
  • Complete all reps on one arm, then switch
