Dumbbell Preacher Curl over Exercise Ball

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Preacher Curl over Exercise Ball.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The dumbbell preacher curl over an exercise ball is a biceps isolation exercise that uses a stability ball as an improvised preacher pad. Draping your upper arms over the ball restricts upper-arm movement and introduces an element of stabilisation, increasing the demand on the biceps and core.

How to Perform

  • Place an exercise ball on the floor and kneel or sit behind it
  • Drape both upper arms over the top of the ball, holding a dumbbell in each hand with a supinated grip
  • Allow your arms to extend fully, resting against the ball for the starting position
  • Curl both dumbbells upward in a smooth arc until your forearms are nearly vertical
  • Pause briefly at the top and squeeze the biceps
  • Lower the dumbbells slowly back to the fully extended position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
