Dumbbell Palm Rotational Bent Over Row

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Palm Rotational Bent Over Row.

About this exercise

The dumbbell palm rotational bent over row adds a forearm supination to the standard bent-over row, rotating the palms from a neutral position at the bottom to a supinated (underhand) position at the top. This rotation increases biceps activation and allows a fuller contraction of the lats at the peak of the movement.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand with a neutral grip
  • Hinge at the hips until your torso is roughly parallel to the floor, knees slightly bent
  • Let your arms hang straight down with palms facing each other
  • Begin rowing the dumbbells upward while rotating your palms to face upward (supinate)
  • Pull until your elbows pass your torso and your palms fully face the ceiling
  • Squeeze the lats at the top, then slowly lower the dumbbells while rotating back to neutral
  • Keep your back flat and core braced throughout the set
