About this exercise

A weighted sit-up performed with a dumbbell held extended overhead throughout the movement, adding resistance to the abdominals and increasing the demand on shoulder stability. Keeping the arms vertical throughout the full range of motion intensifies the core challenge.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor
  • Hold a dumbbell with both hands and extend your arms directly overhead, perpendicular to the floor
  • Brace your core and curl your torso upward into a full sit-up while keeping your arms extended overhead
  • Rise until your torso is upright and the dumbbell is directly above you
  • Lower your torso slowly back to the floor under control, maintaining the overhead arm position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
