About this exercise

An advanced unilateral bench press variation where only two diagonal (opposite) points of contact are maintained — one shoulder on the bench and the opposite foot on the floor — while pressing a dumbbell. The cross-body instability creates a powerful anti-rotation demand on the core and hip stabilisers.

How to Perform

  • Lie on a flat bench and raise into a hip bridge, then lift one leg so that only the opposite shoulder blade and one foot support you
  • Hold a dumbbell in the hand corresponding to the elevated-hip side with your arm extended upward
  • Lower the dumbbell slowly toward your chest under control, feeling the anti-rotation tension build in your core
  • Press the dumbbell back up to full extension, driving through the grounded foot to stay stable
  • Keep your hips square and avoid any twisting of the pelvis or torso
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the opposite diagonal
