About this exercise

The dumbbell one-arm snatch is a full-body explosive weightlifting movement that develops power, coordination, and athleticism. Starting from the floor, you drive the dumbbell overhead in one fluid motion using leg drive, hip extension, and a rapid shoulder punch-through.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet hip-width apart with a dumbbell on the floor between your feet
  • Hinge at the hips and grip the dumbbell with one hand using a neutral grip, keeping your back flat
  • Drive through your legs and extend your hips explosively to initiate the pull
  • As the dumbbell rises, pull it close to your body, shrugging the shoulder hard
  • At peak height, punch your arm upward and lock out overhead in one fluid motion
  • Receive the dumbbell with your arm fully extended, knees slightly bent to absorb the weight
  • Lower the dumbbell under control back to the starting position
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
