About this exercise

The dumbbell one arm seated neutral wrist curl is an isolation exercise targeting the forearm flexors with a neutral (hammer-grip) wrist position. Resting the forearm on the thigh stabilises the arm so the wrist joint does the work, building forearm strength and thickness with minimal shoulder or elbow involvement.

How to Perform

  • Sit on a bench or chair with a light dumbbell in one hand, using a neutral grip (thumb facing up)
  • Rest the back of your forearm along your thigh so your wrist extends just beyond your knee
  • Allow the dumbbell to lower naturally, extending the wrist slightly at the bottom
  • Curl the wrist upward as far as comfortable, squeezing the forearm flexors at the top
  • Lower the wrist slowly back to the starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one arm before switching to the other
