About this exercise

The dumbbell one arm reverse preacher curl is a unilateral isolation exercise performed on a preacher (Scott) bench with an overhand grip. Resting the upper arm on the padded surface eliminates momentum and keeps tension on the brachioradialis and forearm extensors throughout the full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Select an appropriate dumbbell and sit at a preacher bench, placing the back of one upper arm flat against the angled pad
  • Grasp the dumbbell with an overhand (pronated) grip, arm extended toward the bottom of the pad
  • Keeping your upper arm pressed firmly against the pad, curl the dumbbell upward using an overhand grip
  • Raise the dumbbell until your forearm is approximately vertical, squeezing the forearm at the top
  • Slowly lower the dumbbell back to full extension under control, without letting the arm bounce off the pad
  • Complete all reps on one arm before switching to the other
