About this exercise

The dumbbell lying supine wrist curl is performed lying face up on a bench with the forearms resting along the thighs or bench edge, curling the dumbbells upward by flexing the wrists. This position keeps the forearm flexors under constant tension throughout the range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Lie face up on a flat bench, holding a dumbbell in each hand with an underhand (supine) grip
  • Rest your forearms on your thighs or along the bench, with your wrists extending just beyond the edge
  • Allow the dumbbells to lower by extending your wrists toward the floor
  • Curl the dumbbells upward by flexing your wrists as far as possible
  • Squeeze the forearm flexors at the top of the movement
  • Lower slowly back to the extended position under control
