About this exercise

A dumbbell pullover performed while lying with the upper back supported on an exercise ball. The ball allows a greater range of motion through the shoulder joint than a flat bench while also challenging core stability and hip drive throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Sit on an exercise ball and walk forward until your upper back and shoulders rest across the ball, forming a bridge with your hips raised
  • Hold a single dumbbell with both hands above your chest, arms slightly bent at the elbows
  • Keep your hips elevated and your core braced throughout the entire set
  • Slowly arc the dumbbell back and over your head toward the floor, feeling a stretch through your chest and lats
  • Reverse the motion and bring the dumbbell back to the starting position above your chest
  • Control the descent and avoid letting your hips sag as you reach overhead
