About this exercise

A unilateral lying triceps extension performed with a supinated (underhand) grip, which shifts emphasis to the long head of the triceps and reduces wrist strain compared to a pronated variation. Performing one arm at a time improves mind-muscle connection and corrects imbalances.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on a bench and hold one dumbbell in the working hand with a supinated grip (palm facing your head)
  • Extend the arm straight above your chest with the upper arm perpendicular to the floor
  • Keeping your upper arm fixed, hinge at the elbow and lower the dumbbell toward the opposite shoulder in a controlled arc
  • Stop when you feel a full stretch in the triceps
  • Extend the elbow to drive the dumbbell back to the starting position, fully locking out the arm
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
