About this exercise

A unilateral lying triceps extension performed with a pronated (overhand) grip, targeting all three heads of the triceps with particular emphasis on the lateral head. Performing one arm at a time allows a greater focus on each side and helps correct strength imbalances.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on a bench and hold one dumbbell in the working hand with a pronated grip (palm facing your feet)
  • Extend the arm straight above your chest, keeping the upper arm perpendicular to the floor
  • Keeping your upper arm fixed, hinge at the elbow and lower the dumbbell toward your forehead or slightly past it
  • Stop when you feel a full stretch in the triceps
  • Extend the elbow to drive the dumbbell back to the starting position, fully locking out the arm
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
