About this exercise

The dumbbell floor hammer press is a chest and triceps exercise performed lying flat on the floor with a neutral (hammer) grip. The floor limits range of motion, reducing shoulder stress, while the neutral grip shifts emphasis toward the inner chest and triceps.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on the floor with a dumbbell in each hand, palms facing each other (neutral/hammer grip)
  • Bend your elbows to approximately 90 degrees so your upper arms rest on the floor
  • Press both dumbbells upward in a straight path until your arms are fully extended
  • Keep your palms facing each other throughout the entire movement
  • Slowly lower the dumbbells back until your upper arms touch the floor
  • Maintain a neutral wrist position and keep your core engaged throughout
