About this exercise

A side-lying core exercise that targets the obliques by performing a V-up motion while holding a dumbbell for added resistance. You lie on your side and simultaneously raise both your legs and upper body toward each other, creating a V shape. The dumbbell increases the challenge on the oblique muscles.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your side on a mat with your legs extended and stacked on top of each other
  • Hold a dumbbell in the hand of your top arm, extending it overhead along your body
  • Brace your core and simultaneously raise your legs and upper body off the floor toward each other
  • At the top, squeeze your obliques hard as your elbow and legs meet in a V position
  • Slowly lower your legs and torso back to the starting position with control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other
