About this exercise

A flat bench dumbbell press performed with a neutral (hammer) grip, where the palms face each other throughout the movement. This grip reduces shoulder stress compared to a pronated press while keeping the triceps and chest highly engaged.

How to Perform

  • Lie flat on a bench holding a dumbbell in each hand at chest height with palms facing each other (neutral grip)
  • Plant your feet firmly on the floor and retract your shoulder blades against the bench
  • Press the dumbbells directly upward until your arms are fully extended, keeping the palms-facing-each-other grip throughout
  • Control the descent by bending your elbows and lowering the dumbbells back to chest level
  • Keep your elbows at roughly a 45-degree angle to your torso throughout the movement
