About this exercise

A front raise variation performed with a slight forward lean at the hips, which removes momentum and keeps constant tension on the anterior deltoid throughout the lift. Leaning forward changes the resistance curve, making the top portion of the raise more challenging and increasing time under tension.

How to Perform

  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand and stand with a slight forward lean at the hips, keeping your back flat
  • Let the dumbbells hang in front of you with palms facing your body
  • Keeping a slight bend in your elbows, raise both arms forward and upward to shoulder height
  • Pause briefly at the top to squeeze the anterior deltoids
  • Lower the dumbbells slowly back to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
