About this exercise

A compound shoulder raise that combines a lateral raise and a front raise into one fluid movement, hitting both the medial and anterior deltoids in a single rep. Raising the dumbbell first to the side and then sweeping it to the front maximizes shoulder time under tension.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs, palms facing your body
  • Keeping a slight bend in your elbows, raise both dumbbells out to the sides until your arms are parallel to the floor
  • Without pausing, sweep the dumbbells forward so they are in front of you at shoulder height
  • Lower the dumbbells back down to the starting position under control
  • Maintain an upright torso throughout and avoid using momentum
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
