About this exercise

The dumbbell lateral raise in plank is an advanced compound exercise performed in a high plank position while raising a single dumbbell out to the side, simultaneously challenging shoulder stability, core anti-rotation strength, and lateral deltoid development.

How to Perform

  • Place one dumbbell on the floor beside you and get into a high plank position with hands directly under shoulders
  • Grip the dumbbell with one hand while the other hand supports your body weight
  • Brace the core tightly to prevent the hips from rotating or dropping
  • Raise the dumbbell directly out to the side until the arm is roughly parallel to the floor
  • Lower the dumbbell back to the starting position in a controlled manner
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching, or alternate sides each rep
  • Keep the body in a straight line from head to heels throughout the movement
