The dumbbell kneeling hold to stand with a clean grip is a compound lower-body exercise that builds unilateral leg strength and hip stability. Starting from a tall kneeling position with dumbbells held at the shoulders in a clean rack position, you drive through one foot to rise to standing, training the quadriceps, glutes, and core simultaneously.

How to Perform

  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height with elbows high, in a clean (front rack) grip
  • Begin in a tall kneeling position with your knees hip-width apart and your torso upright
  • Step one foot forward and plant it flat on the floor in a half-kneeling position
  • Drive through the front foot and push through the back foot to rise to a full standing position
  • Pause briefly at the top with hips fully extended
  • Reverse the movement in a controlled manner back to the half-kneeling then tall kneeling position
  • Alternate the leading leg each rep, or complete all reps on one side before switching
