Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Incline Twisted Fly.

MediumUpper chest

About this exercise

An incline chest fly variation where the dumbbells are twisted — starting with palms facing each other at the top and rotating to a palms-up position at the bottom — to increase the stretch on the upper chest. The twist adds a pronation/supination component that enhances pectoral activation throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a 30–45 degree incline and lie back with a dumbbell in each hand above your chest, palms facing each other
  • With a soft bend in your elbows, open your arms wide and lower the dumbbells out to the sides
  • As you descend, gradually rotate your wrists so palms face upward at the lowest point
  • Feel the deep stretch across your upper chest at the bottom
  • Reverse the motion, closing your arms back up and rotating the wrists back so palms face each other at the top
  • Squeeze the chest at the top and repeat
