About this exercise

A triceps isolation exercise performed lying face down on an incline bench, extending a dumbbell backward from a bent-elbow position. The incline angle keeps constant tension on the triceps throughout the movement and removes any tendency to swing the torso for momentum.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a moderate incline (around 30–45 degrees) and lie face down with your chest against the pad
  • Hold a dumbbell in one hand, letting the arm hang straight down from the shoulder
  • Raise the upper arm until it is parallel to the floor and your elbow is bent at 90 degrees
  • Keep the upper arm fixed and extend the forearm backward until the arm is fully straight
  • Squeeze the triceps hard at full extension
  • Slowly return the forearm to the 90-degree starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one side, then switch arms
