About this exercise

A triceps isolation exercise performed on an incline bench, lowering dumbbells behind the head to stretch and then extend the triceps. The incline angle increases the range of motion and places the long head of the triceps under greater stretch compared to a flat bench variation.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a 30–45 degree incline and sit back holding a dumbbell in each hand
  • Press the dumbbells overhead so your arms are fully extended, palms facing each other
  • Keeping your upper arms stationary and close to your head, bend at the elbows to lower the dumbbells behind your head
  • Lower until you feel a deep stretch in the triceps, then extend your elbows to press the dumbbells back up
  • Keep your core engaged and avoid flaring your elbows out to the sides
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
