About this exercise

The Dumbbell Incline Shoulder Press is performed on an adjustable bench set to a steep incline (around 60–75°), shifting emphasis from the chest toward the front deltoids. It builds shoulder strength and size through a stable overhead pressing pattern.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to approximately 60–75 degrees; sit back against it with a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height
  • Hold the dumbbells with a neutral or slightly pronated grip, elbows slightly out to the sides at shoulder level
  • Press the dumbbells up and slightly inward until your arms are fully extended overhead
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the dumbbells slowly back to shoulder height
  • Keep your back flat against the pad and your feet firmly on the floor throughout
  • Avoid excessive arching of your lower back during the press
