About this exercise

The dumbbell incline one arm hammer press targets the upper chest with a neutral (palms-facing-in) grip on an incline bench. Training one arm at a time challenges core stability and allows focused, independent development of each side of the chest.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a 30–45 degree incline angle
  • Hold one dumbbell in your working hand with a neutral grip (palm facing toward your body)
  • Position the dumbbell at upper chest level, elbow bent at about 90 degrees
  • Press the dumbbell upward and slightly inward until your arm is fully extended
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the dumbbell back to the starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other arm
