Dumbbell Incline Hammer Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Incline Hammer Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The dumbbell incline hammer curl combines the increased stretch of an incline bench position with the neutral (hammer) grip that emphasizes the brachialis and brachioradialis. Performed seated on an incline bench, the arms hang behind the body, maximizing the range of motion and placing constant tension on the upper arm.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a 45–60 degree incline and sit back against it holding a dumbbell in each hand with a neutral grip (palms facing each other)
  • Let your arms hang straight down from your shoulders
  • Keep your upper arms stationary and curl both dumbbells upward simultaneously
  • Continue until the forearms are vertical and the dumbbells are near shoulder level
  • Squeeze the upper arms at the top of the movement
  • Lower the dumbbells slowly back to the fully extended starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
