About this exercise

A dumbbell fly variation performed with the upper back supported on an exercise ball, creating an incline angle that emphasizes the upper chest. The unstable surface of the ball engages the core and stabilizer muscles throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Sit on an exercise ball and walk your feet forward until your upper back rests on the ball at roughly a 45-degree incline
  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand directly above your chest with a slight bend in your elbows
  • Lower the dumbbells out to your sides in a wide arc, keeping the slight elbow bend constant
  • Stop when your arms are roughly level with your shoulders and feel a stretch across the chest
  • Squeeze your chest and bring the dumbbells back up along the same arc until they meet above your chest
  • Keep your hips lifted and your core engaged throughout to maintain a stable bridge position
