Dumbbell Incline Biceps Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Incline Biceps Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The dumbbell incline biceps curl is performed on an incline bench set to roughly 45–60 degrees. The inclined position allows the arms to hang behind the torso, placing the biceps under a greater stretch at the bottom of the movement and increasing the range of motion compared to a standing curl.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a 45–60 degree incline and sit back against it holding a dumbbell in each hand
  • Let your arms hang straight down, palms facing forward (supinated grip)
  • Keep your upper arms stationary and curl both dumbbells upward by flexing at the elbows
  • Continue until the dumbbells reach shoulder level and you feel a peak contraction in the biceps
  • Slowly lower the dumbbells back to the fully extended starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
