About this exercise

A chest isolation exercise performed on an incline bench where you alternate between arms, targeting the upper chest through a wide arc while the opposite arm holds at the top. The alternating pattern extends time under tension and helps identify and correct imbalances between sides.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a 30–45 degree incline and lie back holding a dumbbell in each hand
  • Extend both arms above your chest with a slight bend in the elbows, palms facing each other
  • Lower one arm out to the side in a wide arc until you feel a stretch in the upper chest
  • Bring that arm back up to the starting position
  • Repeat the motion with the opposite arm
  • Continue alternating arms in a slow, controlled rhythm
