Dumbbell High Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell High Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The dumbbell high curl targets the biceps by curling from a position with the elbows raised to shoulder height. This elevated elbow position places the long head of the biceps under greater stretch and keeps tension throughout the full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Stand holding a dumbbell in each hand with a supinated grip (palms facing forward), raising your elbows out to the sides at shoulder height
  • Starting with forearms hanging down, curl the dumbbells upward toward your forehead by flexing the elbows
  • Squeeze the biceps fully at the top of the curl
  • Slowly lower the dumbbells back to the starting position under control, keeping elbows elevated
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
