About this exercise

The dumbbell goblet walking lunge is a lower-body compound exercise that combines a forward walking motion with a lunge while holding a single dumbbell in a goblet position at chest height. It challenges the quadriceps, glutes, and hamstrings while the goblet hold adds a core stability demand.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding one dumbbell vertically at chest height with both hands cupping the top end (goblet grip)
  • Brace your core and keep your chest tall throughout the movement
  • Step forward with one foot and lower your back knee toward the floor, stopping just before it touches
  • Ensure your front knee tracks over your toes and does not cave inward
  • Push through your front heel to rise and bring your rear foot forward to meet your front foot
  • Step forward with the opposite leg and repeat the lunge on that side
  • Continue walking forward, alternating legs, for the target number of reps per leg
