About this exercise

The dumbbell goblet squat with calf raise combines a deep goblet squat with a standing calf raise performed at the top of each rep. Holding a dumbbell vertically at your chest, you squat to depth and then drive up and onto your toes, training the quads, glutes, and calves in a single fluid movement.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding a dumbbell vertically at chest height, cupping the top end with both hands
  • Set your feet shoulder-width apart with toes slightly turned out
  • Brace your core and lower into a deep squat, keeping the dumbbell close to your chest and your torso tall
  • Drive through your heels to stand up from the squat
  • At the top, shift your weight onto the balls of your feet and rise up onto your toes for a full calf raise
  • Lower your heels back to the floor under control before beginning the next rep
