About this exercise

A dynamic lower-body exercise that pairs a goblet squat with a lateral shuffle step, building leg strength while challenging coordination and lateral movement patterns. The dumbbell held at chest height adds load and keeps the torso upright during both the squat and the shuffle.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell vertically at chest height with both hands
  • Descend into a squat until your thighs are parallel to the floor, keeping your chest upright
  • Drive through your heels to stand back up
  • Shuffle one step to the side, keeping a slight bend in your knees
  • Perform another squat in the new position
  • Continue alternating the shuffle direction — left, then right — between each squat
