About this exercise

The dumbbell frog hip thrust is a glute-focused floor exercise performed with the soles of the feet together in a frog or butterfly position. This foot placement externally rotates the hips, shifting more emphasis onto the glutes and inner thighs compared to a standard hip thrust.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back on the floor or a mat and bring the soles of your feet together, letting your knees fall outward in a frog position
  • Place a dumbbell on your lower abdomen or hips and hold it in place with both hands
  • Press your feet together and engage your glutes
  • Drive your hips upward by squeezing your glutes until your hips are fully extended
  • Pause at the top with maximum glute contraction
  • Lower your hips back to the floor in a controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
