Dumbbell Drag Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Drag Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

A bicep curl variation where the dumbbells are dragged upward along the torso rather than curling forward, keeping the elbows behind the body throughout the movement. This shifts more emphasis onto the long head of the biceps and reduces front-delt involvement compared to a standard curl.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright holding dumbbells in front of your thighs with an underhand grip
  • Retract your elbows backward and drag the dumbbells up along your body, keeping them in contact with your torso
  • Continue dragging upward until the dumbbells reach chest height and your elbows are fully flexed
  • Squeeze the biceps at the top for a moment
  • Slowly lower the dumbbells back down along the same path to the starting position
