About this exercise

The dumbbell decline triceps extension is a lying isolation exercise performed on a decline bench, allowing the triceps to work through a longer range of motion compared to a flat bench variation. The decline angle shifts the load toward the long head of the triceps for maximum stretch and contraction.

How to Perform

  • Secure your feet at the top of a decline bench and lie back holding a dumbbell in each hand, arms extended above your chest with palms facing each other
  • Keep your upper arms perpendicular to the floor and stationary throughout the movement
  • Bend your elbows and lower the dumbbells toward the sides of your head in a controlled arc
  • Stop just before the dumbbells touch your temples to feel a full triceps stretch
  • Extend your elbows to press the dumbbells back up to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
