About this exercise

The dumbbell decline one arm hammer press targets the lower chest with a neutral (palms-facing-in) grip on a decline bench. Performing it one arm at a time increases core stability demands and allows each side to be trained independently.

How to Perform

  • Set a bench to a decline angle and secure your legs under the support pads
  • Hold one dumbbell in your working hand with a neutral grip (palm facing toward your body)
  • Position the dumbbell at chest level beside the lower chest, elbow bent
  • Press the dumbbell upward and slightly inward until your arm is fully extended
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the dumbbell back to the starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other arm
